Nice to find this community. I am mostly here for advice, since I’m new to chickens.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
yes, we got our first chickens in March.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
8 cockerels, 12 pullets though I think may end up being male.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Rhode Island Reds and Sapphire Gems
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They’re funny! They make me laugh, and are just overall fun to watch and interact with
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Crochet, making Art, & charity work
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 2 dogs 4 cats. It wasn’t my choice to get chickens but somehow they’ve ended up being mine. I have mixed feelings about it, but I think they’re really cute and they make me happy.
We ended up with 8 male chicks by mistake. We were sent the wrong chicks and the company wouldn’t take them back. I didn’t have the heart to kill them as babies, so now we have a separate rooster flock...for now.
I wanted to at least give them a chance at life and not just kill them off, especially since we’ve never had to kill anything before.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve known about BYC for 2 months, found you through endless google searches and decided to join to get more advice for seasoned chicken owners.
