(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I just got 3 chicks, born Aug. 3.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have only the 3!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a Buff Orpington (Love), a Speckled Sussex (Brownie), and an Easter Egger (Peck).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love birds, and love eggs. It seemed natural! I enjoy watching my chicks, playing with them, and being their roost and feeder all in one.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I enjoy making stained glass, reading, hiking, and my guilty pleasure: playing Township.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a high school teacher in NYC, married with a 7yo son. We have some goldfish in a pond, and a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach! Our yard is not big at all, but we have a lot of "wild landscaping" for chickens to explore, and not much they can destroy!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC because of the excessive research I did before buying my chicks. The site kept popping up with answers for everything! People here are so knowledgable and seem quite friendly, and I'd love to be part of that!
