(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, we are new to chickens. We got our chickens about 4 weeks ago. A friend raised them from chicks and then we took them when they were 6 weeks old.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 4.
(3) What breeds do you have?
All 4 are Black Australorps.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We enjoy watching them and guessing what they are thinking. And, I know it sounds weird, but I like getting up early with them before the other humans wake up. And, even weirder, my partner enjoys picking up the poop! (Hooray!)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, hiking, pilates
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are in a city lot in Los Angeles, so we don't have a ton of room, but so far our backyard seems just perfect for 4 chickens.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC about a month ago when we first started seriously thinking about getting some chickens. It seems like you guys have all the answers!
