My name is Leah, and this is my first time raising chickens. I have been using this website for advice but never really had to post anything before today. I have lost 3 out of 5 of my Red Star flock this morning to a predator, and I'm having problems with a depressed chicken now. I am absolutely devastated and have been crying for a few hours now, but I know that life goes on. I will definitely be rebuilding my flock ASAP! I love my chickens and am mourning right now but I will make sure not to make the same mistake again.

Thats good, chickens do get shocked very easily, make sure they are eating and drinking

She was eating a little, I gave her some of her favorite treats and that seemed to help and after that, I saw her drinking water, thank you!

Welcome to Bacyard Chickens loss is tough. Hardware cloth is the the best way to stop a predator .. Birds can go in shock yes wash the one with blood on her warm little soap then dry her good if possible

Oh I am so sorry! Yes it can be quite stressful on a flock after a predator attack, they will need a lot of TLC for a while. Some take weeks even months to get over it. Do your best to keep them safe. My heart goes out to you.

I know how rough it is to lose some in your flock, even if you expect the worst nothing could anticipate how you'd actually feel I'm so sorry you have to go through that but I'm glad you're keeping your chin up!
