In the Brooder
Good Morning all! My name is Jennifer and I am new here to this forum. Just wanted to say Hi and give a little info about me!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? - YES we are new to chickens. We started our journey 1 year ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We currently have 2 roos, 4 laying hens, and 5 female pullets.
(3) What breeds do you have? One roo is a Polish Cochin, One roo is an Ameraucana/Easter Egger, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Easter Eggers hens, 5 Olive Eggers pullets
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? My favorite part is just watching them and interacting with them. They can have such personalities. The eggs are of course a plus (which is one of our main reasons to raise chickens)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoy crafting and reading when I have time.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. So our story is this: We were born and raised in rural TN. 3 years ago we made the decision to move to rural NW FL to open a restaurant. We lived in "town" for 2 years before deciding we missed country life. So we purchased 5 acres just outside of town so we could still be close to our restaurant. Our oldest daughter who is 15 has shown high interest in cows and showing as well. So L&A Farm was born (Lillie and Audrey, for our daughters, plus my grandfather who was a big farmer, his name was LA) So now 1 year later, we have added 2 mini zebu cows, 1 holstein calf, 1 donkey, 1 mini pygmy billy goat, 3 grown mini pygmy nanny goats, 1 goat kid born on the farm, and 2 goat kids we adopted, All my chickens, a dog, and 4 cats! LOL
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
. I came across BYC via searching google when I was researching about my chickens. I had read some threads and finally decided it might be a good idea to join and just ask the experts when I had questions!
. I am excited to be a part of this group. I was involved in other forums when my girls were babies and I was just learning to be a mom and I have missed being a part of a community. Members become like family!
