Hi My name is Deb. I just bought a house in Maine about 6 months ago and am finally settled in enough to get the chickens that I have wanted forever. When I was a little girl growing up in Vermont we had chickens and it was my job to feed and gather eggs. There is a huge chicken coop on the property that the previous owners had chickens in until we bought the house.

Welcome, and congrats on your new home and new adventure.

If you are using an old coop for new birds, I would advise a major clean up and sanitation of the coop. Clean every scrap out of it, all hay, shavings, and whatever else is in there, and then spray everything with a bleach or quatenary solution. A bleach solution is best for any feeders or waters left behind. Air dry. Best of luck!
