Hi everyone! My name is Nicole (Nikki) and I’ve been researching getting backyard chickens for over a year and I somehow feel less prepared than before! So I’m here to learn and learn and learn! Thank you all in advance 
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’ve had ducks in the past, but never chickens. We plan to get started this winter!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero now, but hope to build up a flock of about 20.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We plan to have an assortment!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Of course the fresh eggs, but also for pest control, composting, and for pets!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love gardening (veg and flower), reading, enjoying and caring for nature, and TV!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I married my high school sweetheart 20 years ago, just graduated from the University of Washington with my BA in Integrated Social Sciences, and have been a stay at home mom for nearly 16 years to 4 kids (the youngest 3 I will be homeschooling for the second year now due to Covid). We have 2 Bernese Mt. Dogs, 2 indoor kittens, and a beautiful Betta fish. We have a beautiful home on 3 acres on an island in the Puget Sound in the PNW and I look forward to turning this paradise into a hobby farm to homestead.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
BYC threads often popped up in Google search results, so I’ve read a lot here, but thought I should officially join!
