I found this lovely site while searching for information.
I currently just have 4 hens, mixed breed ex battery.
My first experience with hens was over 10 years ago when my mother saw a rescue posting for homes for hens going to slaughter- she put us down to take 15. We had no experience, no idea what we were doing, we didn’t even have a coop! So they lived in our conservatory for awhile
We’ve continued to keep ex battery hens ever since, it’s such a lovely experience to take in these poorly, featherless girls and watch as they learn to explore the world, their first time in grass and getting a dust bath is always so fun to watch.
Recently I decided to expand a little, I got an incubator and some fertile quail eggs. I am soon hoping to get silkie eggs too as they are such beautiful birds.
Already I am being asked if all this goes well can we add some ducks too!
