Hello! I'm just starting my flock, right now I have 5 chicks with a plan for a total of 10. I am creating a mixed flock so we can experience different breeds and learn which ones we like best. So far we have a Barred Rock, a Buckeye, an Amberlink, a Speckled Sussex, and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. We are less than a week into being chicken owners but are enjoying how much they change everyday at this stage! And we are looking forward go fresh eggs (eventually).
My kids and I recently bought a small farm and are looking forward to being more self sustaining with our own garden, our chickens, eventually bees and maybe other animals too. We also have a pond that needs some work but then my son looks forward to fish!
I've known of BYC for several years as I've been wanting chickens but wasn't previously on a property where I could have them. Since moving recently and starting our flock, I knew it was time to join.
