I just got some Delaware chicks. I kept chickens when I was growing up, hatching buff Orpingtons and arucaunas. I have 4 chicks right now with 10 more on the way. I got Delawares as they're a nice heritage breed, they're supposed to be cold and heat hardy birds and I live in the high desert, they lay beautiful brown eggs, and they remind me of my mystery rooster that I hatched as a teenager. I loved him.
It's hard to say what my favorite thing is about having chickens. They make food and fertilizer and they're adorable. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir on this one haha.
My hobbies I suppose are gardening, watching wildlife, and arts and crafts.
My husband and I recently moved onto 5 acres and are trying to start a little family farm. We have lots of animals... 2 cats, 2 leopard geckos, a blue heeler, a pit bull, 4 English budgies (my hens are on eggs rn too!), 2 Indian ringnecks, a cockatiel, a little rescued house sparrow, and a bunch of freshwater fish... Plus my chicks of course! We're also expecting our first child this October.
I found BYC as a result of many Google searches regarding my chicks and can always use advice.
