Glad to be here! I currently have a very small flock of 3 pet chickens. My oldest is Pirouette, a Rhode Island Red. She's about 13 years old and was named by my ballet-dancing 9 year old at the time . Then I have Anise, a black Australorp, and Deliah, a black-laced Wyandotte. They free-range our backyard, get along with the 2 dogs - a yellow lab and a brown chihuahua. They give life and colour to my backyard and I really enjoy them. I can't remember a time when I didn't want to have chickens and can't imagine life without them now.

Your little flock sounds lovely, and I am so impressed that Pirouette has managed to live such a long life.

One of my original hens was a Rhode Island Red, who was also named in a dancing vein. Ginger Rogers, more than any chicken I've ever known, loved to scratch and dig. In my mind, she was definitely a dancing queen.
