Hello from Western Washington. I have had my flock for 2 years but still consider myself a newbie.
I have 14 hens, 1 rooster and a 3 day old that was hatched by one of my silkies. In addition to 2 silkies I have a buff and lavender Orpington, a California white, a couple of Americans, a few different wynodottes, a copper Marian, and. Ducle. My rooster is a frizzle. I love having a variety.
I love learning all of their unique personalities and how they interact with each other and me. A few put Mr. Frizzle in his place if he’s in a mood around me.
We used to let them free range but after we lost a few my husband built a large run and we covered it with a bird net and electrified the back since it borders the woods and there are bobcats and bears among other wildlife.
We ( husband and 2 kids) live on 5 acres and have a pet mini pig, 2 rabbits a dog, cat and fish.
I’ve often looked on BYC for answers and love the site.
