Hey y'all, I finally decided to sign up after reading so many helpful posts here.
I'm raising my first flock now which originally consisted of 2 Barred Rock and 2 ISA Browns, but one of the Browns checked out about 4 days after bringing them all home from the feed store. Found her to be lethargic that morning so I came home from work to check on her shortly after noon and she was dead. Dang it! So that was Lesson 1 for me: always buy more chickens than you actually want/need!
Today the remaining ISA Brown laid her first egg! I know it was her because before I left for work she was singing the egg song. I walked back to the coop and... no egg? I looked again around noon and there it was! Right next to one of the wooden eggs I had placed to teach them where to lay.
Anyway, I think my peeps have fowl pox
and just wanted everyone's consensus on my diagnosis. I'll start a new thread in the appropriate forum for that. Edit: that post is here
