I believe I used to have an account here but I can’t remember what email or pass I used so here we go again! I had a wonderful flock 8 years ago and upon moving into a new house, next to a new housing development, a displaced Bobcat broke into my coop and ate all of my chickens in one night. I was devastated. Since then I was afraid to get a new flock, but my sweet husband is helping me build a predator proof coop and run and since the bobcat has not been spotted in several years I think the new flock should be ok. My new flock will be assorted heavy breeds and EEs, along with a few Polish and silkies. I’m happy to be back on and look forward to connecting will all the helpful and knowledgeable Chicken lovers here at Backyard Chickens. ❤️🐣

I'm so sorry!
Welcome to BYC & best of luck with your upcoming flock.

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

As long as your coop and run are constructed of hardware cloth with a no-dig predator apron and no holes larger than a half inch you should be quite secure. The addition of hot wires or electrified poultry netting will add to that security level.
