Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We've been raising chickens for 5 or 6 years now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now we have 14 chickens

(3) What breeds do you have?

1 brahma, Easter Eggers, Barred Rock, and Sapphire Gem? (Maybe)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Fresh eggs and they're fun to watch

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

sewing and gardening (and by extension canning.)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm a sahm of 3 wild children, we have 2 dogs, way too many cats, and 3 geese we got to guard the chickens.

Welcome to BYC!!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Nice introduction. You keep a wonderful variety of breeds, makes for a colorful chicken yard for sure! Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
We've had several different breeds over the years trying to find the best fit. The first year we had black sex link and leg horns. We lost two of the sex link to heat exhaustion, too hot and humid for them here that year. Leg horns are a little flighty for my tastes, although good layers. I've also had silkies and a bantam (she was my favorite). We have a lot of predators here so have lost almost all to them over the years. We protect from one thing, then something else gets them. Foxes, feral tomcat, hawks, owls, and raccons.
