Hello all,

I’m new to the forum and wanted to share and learn! I’m currently building an 8x6 coop with 18x6 attached run and space underneath the coop. I have 10 Easter egger hens, 1 tiny silkie hen and 2 Brahmas which I believe to be a hen and rooster.

I live on just under one acre and the birds can free range the woods behind the house and they love it. I will eventually be adding some fencing to allow more time out of the run, but I’m currently getting a bit bothered trying to round them up out of the neighbors woods lol.

Anyways, look forward to getting tips and sharing my build and experience with the process. I’ll post the coop and run pics soon, but for now I’m off to work on it. Hardware cloth will be on soon and a tin roof on the run. Georgia heat is making my build time short.

Thank you! I actually got 1/4 inch, so even more protection I hope!
Welcome to BYC.
It will depend on the gauge. 19ga is stronger than 16ga. You don't want to go under 19ga strength because it will be too flimsy to keep out most creatures. So 1/2" @ 19ga is better than 1/4" @ 16ga.
