My name is Sarah and I have read posts but I have finally joined the group so I can ask questions and really participate! I have had chickens a few years ago, and then restarted my flock 2 years ago. That flock has 7 hens it’s a mix of fluffy Wyandottes and 2 unknown same breed girls and 1 bantam. I’m not sure what breed the bantam is either. I got those chickens plus a bantam rooster from tractor supply 2 years ago. The rooster was tiny, beautiful, but aggressive and while he never got the chance to hurt me his version of attack was tripping me! My uncle that lived in the country gave him a nice home. Unfortunately my large hens are bullying my bantam so I decided to get her some bantam friends so they can hopefully stick together. So now I have 6 bantams in a brooder to add to my flock in the future. I’m not 100% decided on combing or having 2 coops. If the big girls bully all the littles it won’t work out in 1 large coop. I will observe behaviors during introductions in the future because I do have a few bossy ladies. I thought Wyandottes were more chill than bossy though. Maybe they are spoiled though? I took up gardening just to feed them fresh veggies, and when the garden isn’t ready I buy stuff from the store for them.. I don’t eat vegetables but buy them for my girls. I love that when I go outside to work in my garden they are curious or nosey about what I’m doing. They will get on their outdoor roost bars to get higher to see what I’m doing. I also love hearing them talk. Or scream after laying their eggs they tell the world! While I’ve had chickens for a few years combined now and years ago I still feel sorta new to it because I have been blessed to face few issues in the past so as I run into issues now I feel lost. I previously had RIR and Orpingtons and had no issues with health or personalities. This time different breeds different issues I didn’t have before. Like poop stuck to fluffy butts on adult birds.
I never thought I would have to consider cutting butt feathers off to avoid seeing unsightly poop visions.
