Hi I am new to this site and have only just started to keep chickhens in the last few months.

My Chickhens are Light Sussex and Black Rocks they have a coop and run attach to it. I feed them Layers Mash once a day and some corn about 4.pm.

My girls are not laying at the moment and they are also sleeping in the Broody box would love some helpful tips as to how I can stop it or is it alright for them to be in it.

I feed them in the run and I keep a bowl of water in there and a bowl in coop full of water.

look forward to some helpful tips as all the books I have read same different things.

I live in England in Sussex.

Thanks

cecilia

Hi, You are gonna love it here. If you like chickens this is the place for you.
I always wanted chickens but was a little nervous until I found these awesome people
all my questions were answered and then some. This site is truly addicting.
Good luck.

Hello,
I am relatively new to this as well. But what I have found is that mine seem to do a little better on a mixed feed. When I first got them only bought layer crumbles and meat builder crumbles. Since I have started using a mixed feed with crumbles, sunflower seeds, cracked corn, and a few other seeds mixed in, they seem happier and laying much more. Also I give them left overs from my table as treats. Just a little, but they seem to like just about everything except for onions.
As far as sleeping in the boxes goes, I have one hen that prefers to sleep on the floor or in a box but all the others rest on the perches I have in the cage and run.

Good luck!
