Hey everyone - I'm a newbie to the BYC site and also to raising chickens. I have 3 barred rocks, 3 RIR, and 2 Buff Orpingtons. Got my first 4 eggs this week, I believe they are all from the same chicken, one of my barred rocks named Flo. She's the only one I've seen sitting in the nests.
I would like to know at what age a rooster starts developing spurs. I don't think I have any roos, but cannot be 100% sure.
Anyway, nice to meet everyone. I'll try to post pictures as soon as I figure out how.
Thanks!!!!!

you post pics by clicking on uploads clicking browse and then choosing your pic click sumbmit and then it will take a few miniutes and then copy the image one and paste it on to the page where you want it

I love my Buff Orpingtons!

My oldest roosters are almost 6 months old. Their spurs are just now growing (less than 1/2 inch). Spurs aren't the sure way to identify gender...hens can have them too. If you post pics, the kind BYC people here can help. Combs are usually the first thing you can distinguish (not always) in a rooster.

i love the orps too they are so pretty and fluffy i just got some lavenders they are so pretty and i want the chocolate or brown ones
