    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I don't have any chickens yet. I raised Mallard ducks last spring to eat the "duck weed" in our pond. Spent a lot on cracked corn and raised SPOILED ducks. (Dumb too, they didn't fly south until Mid-December) I am planning to build a coop this March and buy chickens as soon as it is finished.

    (2) How many chickens do you have right now?

    (3) What breeds do you have?
I want Easter Eggers chickens. One of the employees at our local Tractor Supply raises them. I am hoping to buy a couple young ones, a couple that are laying and a Rooster from her. (I already raised my share of birds in my house, I want to get them ready for the outdoors when I get them) The neighbor's girls will LOVE the colored eggs and I plan to pay them in eggs for watching/feeding my chickens when I am out of town this summer.

    (4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I googled "Raising Chickens ". And here I am. I have been reading the forums for over 2 weeks. Figured it was time to get an ID so I could post my questions the minute I thought of them

    (5) What are some of your other hobbies?
    Raising Dumb Ducks.

    (6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share

I have a cat who thinks she is a dog and comes when she is called. She also understands English. I showed her the ducklings and told her that they were my pets and to leave them alone. (I had them in the enclosed porch for 7 weeks.) She left them alone. When I put them in the pond she slept near their enclousure every night for a week making sure nothing got to them. She never even stalked them, but ran off the squirrels eating their food. I also have a boyfriend (if a 50+ year old man can be called a "boy"). He is going to build the chicken coop. (He built his first wife a HOUSE, so I am thinking a chicken coop will be no big deal for him)
