Thanks for all the welcomes! We are getting our chicks in April from a farm supply here in Lexington and my dad and I are in the process of building our coop! I found BYC by searching around online looking for info on keeping chickens in urban areas. I was surprised at how much was out there!My husband is a transplant from California and we have been married for 24 years. We have a 13 year-old daughter who is homeschooled (and very much looking forward to this experience) and a nine-year old son with Down Syndrome who is currently in 3rd grade at a local elementary school. I think the chickens will be a great experience for him as well as he loves animals! I don't get to get online as often as I would like, but I am sure I will be doing so more often with questions once we get started!
