You can never have too many chickens; at least as long as you live in the country!
 
Howdy from Kansas, Alan! For me too many is when you can no longer adequately care for them or if sanitary conditions become a problem. As they grow the food costs continue to rise so that is always a consideration as well. Plus what are you raising them for? Food? eggs? both? market? Lots of things to think about.
