Hi, I'm Angie. I've lurked on this site to answer some of my questions for a while, but have finally decided to sign up as a member. I live in rural Jackson County ,West Virginia. I am a mom to 2 boys, (8 and 5). We also have 2 cats, an Aussie, a rabbit, a lamb and 18 chickens. We started out last year with 6 chickens, were given 2 chickens by a coworker who didn't have time for them anymore and recently integrated 10 new chicks to the flock. We have 2 golden comets, 5 rhode island reds, 3 wyandots, and the other 10 honestly cannot remember what breed they are, though 5 are black and the other 5 range from light red to golden. I keep thinking the black ones are black stars and the others may be RIR and orphingtons. Either way, they are all very tame as my kids love to go in the coop and sit with them and pet them. I think we may have one rooster in the bunch but I cannot be for sure yet as the 10 we added are still a little young and not laying. Of the eight that we have that are older, we are averaging about 3-4 eggs per day right now. Last summer were were getting 4-5 per day.
