My name is Shandie Jacobson- Martinez. I started my chicken farm as my son calls it about a month ago when I received a chicken from a someone who did not want her anymore. I currently have 8 chickens. 4 Barred Plymouth Rock, 2 Rhode Island Red, 1 buff and whatever our first chicken is,we are unsure. I found Backyard Chickens while doing research to figure out what I was doing with my chicken.

I would love to get more chickens but sadly I do not think my coop is big enough,I am thinking it is time for an expansion.

Hi, Shandie, and welcome to BYC. Sounds as if 'chicken math' has afflicted you for sure.

Welcome to BYC!

Great that you could join! Pull up a roost bar and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Spring is almost here, perfect time to start building a new coop!

I am working on getting my husband to help me enlarge our coop so the chickens we have can have more room. I am slowly wearing him down. I even found some old doors we could use as walls. here are a few pictures of my current coop.

The sides fold up and down to provide airflow or block wind.

Is that a stereo speaker? OMG, it works pretty good as a nest box. Cute! What kind of predators do you have to worry about out there?

Be very careful when using chicken wire. Be warned that it can be chewed thru very easily by many critters, especially raccoons. Paws can get thru as well. Mice, rats and snakes can slither right in. The preferred wire is hardware cloth. I don't, as most of us here on BYC, trust chicken wire. I don't want your babies to become a chicken dinner some night by night time marauders.

But yes, the speakers will work well as a nest box!

I do not like the chicken wire but we had a chicken and needed somewhere to put her. And the chicken wire was free. I am actaully going to either expand or rebuild I have not decided which yet and when I do I'm going to change over to hardware cloth.
