Hi! I'm new to BYC (well I've been lurking and reading for a long time but finally joined :D ). I'm from North Texas and new to raising chickens. We have 2 Rhode Island Reds (Merida and Ariel), 2 yellow chickens (Rapunzel and Chicken nugget) (who I am not sure of the breed but I would like to figure that out lol ) and 2 mallard ducks (Elsa and Sven). These are all about 12-13 weeks old. Then we have another bunch of "babies" 2 easter eggers (Elsa II -again yes I know lol, and the other one still needs a name), 1 olive egger (Anna II), 2 Black sex linked chickens (they still need names), and 2 blue laced wyndottes (Dot, and still needs a name). That bunch is about 6-8 weeks old.

In case you were wondering about the names I obviously have babies of the human variety too lol. A 7 year old girl (thats where all the princess names came from....obviously we are part of the Frozen craze) and a 5 year old boy (he named chicken nugget lol)

We turned a half of a storage building into a coop. My husband wants to free range them. I am afraid they will get eaten. so I think we will be building a large pen/run for them. For now I have been letting them have free run of our large back yard. I am currently in the process of figuring out nesting boxes since hopefully we will have some layers near the end of august. :D

ANYWAY lol I am excited to learn more (and I'm sure my husband is excited to get more chicken coop projects lol not sure he knew what he was in for when I showed up at home with a box of chicks/ducklings lol)

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you are enjoying your flock! Cute names too. If you work with your birds, they can learn their names and come when called. :)

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

I had read that....since then I have been talking to them and calling them by name....my 2 reds look at me like I'm crazy.....the other two arent particularly fond of being handled sooo we are working on that :D We are handling the babies more than we did the first round (Mom was afraid they were much more fragile than they obviously are the first time around lol it's like the second child.....The first time you are all nervous and crazy....the second time you're much more relaxed). The kids are enjoying these much more.

Now if I could get the munchkins to choose names for the other babies lol

Thanks for the welcome!!

Welcome to BYC! My granddaughter names our hens after Disney princesses as well. If you will post full profile photos of Rapunzel and Chicken Nugget, we can help identify which breed they are. Good luck with your flock.

Hi my name is Lorrie from Minnesota, I am new to BYC! I am also new to raising chickens, my husband and I got our first six chicks at the local farm and tractor supply, I did some research before we purchased our chicks, because we live in MN and winters can get extremely cold we decided on production chickens for there hardiness, good egg production and temperament.
I have had so much fun watching them grow and go from chick box to coop!! I want to get a couple of Easter eggers but it's hard to get just two chickens unless you know someone or you have to order so many at a time, any tips on this would be great!
Looking forward to posting more and once I figure out how to post pictures I will be posting pics of my little flock:)
