hi my name is lisa and im new at this back yard chicken stuff. i have raised my chickens from babies. i have 2 rhode island reds and 3 ameraucanas. 4 of them are hens and 1 is a rooster. when i started this i didnt want any roosters because of the crowing but when i went and bought them and thought i was getting all hen one turned out to be a rooster. so far hes pretty cool but he is still very young. the ameraucanas are about 2months old and the reds are 3 months old. so here i am and i hope i dont bug you all to much with questions.

Welcome.
As long as you don't bug your neighbors and it's legal, I like having a rooster (or a lot of roosters).
When I'm in my house I can hear the traffic (including booming radios), owls, barking dogs and the train whistle that's 3 miles away but I can't hear the roosters crow. They're really not that loud.

If I could hear them I'd prefer to awaken to a rooster crow than an annoying alarm clock.

ETA

If it's an aggressive rooster you're worried about, I've found that moving slowly and bringing treats helps a lot. Roosters attack predators and other roosters. Predators move fast and other roosters don't bring treats.

You may need more hens for this rooster. Generally the ratio of roo to hen is 1 to 8 or 10. One rooster on a few hens can be damaging to the hens even hurting them. So watch the roo when to see how things go.

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry that might help answer some of your questions....https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Well, hello to you, too! Welcome and we have several members here from Oklahoma. Have a look around and I think that no matter how long someone has chickens, you can still learn something new.

Thanks I had chickens since I was little. And now all the stuff I know is thanks to having chickens since I was little and my grandmother.

It's ok Lisa oh and would you like some more rooster's beware that they might fight oh don't forget that you only need one rooster for each ten hens.
