I am Karen in Utah. We have 62 chickens. 14 goats and 6 dogs on our little farm.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens. I'm curious how you balance 6 dogs and manage to have 62 chickens.

Most new members have a story of woe how their family dog slaughtered all their birds. Sometimes they are on their second or third flock replacement and still cannot manage their dog.

Maybe you have words of wisdom (re:dogs and chickens) that would benefit us all.

Regarding dogs and chickens...everyone gets along well. Occasionally, one or two of the dogs will take a run through the chickens just to stir things up a bit. For the most part, they leave each other alone. And...mist of the dogs are pit bulls. Go figure! We are finding that breed to be very good with livestock.

You should check out the goat section on our sister site, BackYardHerds.com. Enjoy the site(s)!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join us. You're living on the edge with your dogs. As most BYC members will tell you (some to their own sorrow), dogs and chickens do not usually mix well. New members have frequently expressed horror when their seemingly benign dog suddenly, and unexpectedly, decided to chase and kill their chickens, and once a dog does this, it is almost impossible to break them from doing it again. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?
