hi there. I'm Jenica and have my second flock going right now. I keep them for egg layers and pets. We have 8 hens and 3 chicks right now. Hope to learn a few things around here.

Welcome to BYC, Jenica. Glad you decided join our flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. What kind of chickens do you have?

Hello Jenica, and welcome to BYC!

I'm glad you joined our community.

Good luck with your chickens! What breeds do you have?

We have buff orphington, black australorp, Rhode Island Red, and a sex link. The chicks are a barnyard mix. They have all been very sweet with my 3yr old son who likes to pick them up. One of the australorp got broody and took the chicks I slipped under her without missing a beat. She is a great mamahen. Now I have another broody australorp so I'm hoping to find some fertilized eggs for her.

Congratulations on the successful hatch. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and friendly (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large brown eggs. Good luck with the next hatch.
