Hello everyone in the community!
Im very new to the site but not to the chicken life. I believe I have had chickens ever since I was able to walk. For a while I didn't because of where we moved to but we do again now and there even rare. Im only a teenager still on the verge of adult hood (18 its almost time to move out and take life head on in some cases.) But I think since im the last child counting my twin I may just live with my dad and help out. (My mom passes away and was who started raising chickens) So enough about the past lets talk now.

The chickens I have:
Iclandic- a breed that was not very common and is or was even rare. The don't really fit in the egg class as there eggs are around medium I believe or small. There know to be broody and have great personality. I have a whopping beginner flock I say of 9= 3 males and 7 females. The youngest male is my pride as hes the first chicken I ever hatched. The youngest female is my second chick to hatch who survived out of three successful hatches. This was the stage of when I was still learning to hatch chicks.

Guineas- I have three guineas out of 4. (One I had to put down. Got a broken wing and it was in pain so was put down)

I also have pheasant and what a unique fowl. So far I have five pheasant and four more we need to pick up. The ones we have now and to come are these (All the ones I have or am getting are in full color):
Phasianus versicolor(green pheasant)- I have 4 females and I male. One female I have in side because she scalped herself from being in a small cage the was only half a foot tall. It was at a sale, the animals were not treated very well. They came home to a great lasting life of being show birds and future mothers and father ;)

lady emeyst- As of now I have 1 male but I have another male and female pair I still need to go pick up from a breeder.

Golden pheasants- I also have a pair of golden pheasants I need to pick up from the same breeder.

I also have many other animals farm and pet alike. Ranging from rabbits , dogs, goats to reptiles and amphibians and small critters such as ferrets, gerbils, and some insects fed to the animals, supper worms, dubia roaches, and crickets. It seems like I have to many animals but there my passion and each individual is token great care of. Im also going to college right now to become a vet of all manner of animals, from farm to packet pets and maybe exotics. I hope to graduate from high school with a bachelors degree.
And to add to the rabbits I have 4 newborns that were born three days ago. She's a first mother and did great. Out of 12 the four survived. Which is good for a first litter or a new mother.

I believe this is all I think anyone would like to know and most would probably wish I stop typing. If you want to know anything about some of the animals or more information about the non-fowl critters let me know. I hope to make many friends and find great information! Thanks and I say hello to everyone.

Welcome! That is some group you have! They must be exciting to care for. I am a huge animal lover of all walks (ok not mice, rats or bats...eek! ) and probably would have 100 if I could (although my husband would probably divorce me). hee hee hee!

Anyways, welcome to BYC you'll love this site!!

Glad you joined us!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I enjoyed reading your intro, I too have raised chickens since I was very young. Sounds like your birds have a great home.

Welcome to BYC, there is a great" Icelandic thread" on here - Just put that in the search box and it will pop up. In the "Other Backyard Poultry" forum you can find threads for guineas, quail, pheasants, ducks, geese, peafowl etc.

Sorry to hear your mom passed away. You sound like a very hardworking, ambitious person and I hope will you realize all your goals. There is such a need for good vets, especially who know how to care for poultry.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. I'm envious; I would love to have some Icelandics but they are relatively rare and expensive, and no one ships them to Hawaii where I live. Based on everything I've read about them though, they must be the hardiest chickens on earth. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
