I see on a half acre you can have 5 one of being a rooster. I live on a 17 acre farm. My friend lives in a neighbor she has 2 chicks when they are bigger can she build a coop to keep them in or do they need to retire to my house with my 4 chicks. Then another friend has 3 in valley village. That are coming once her son has done his cubscout part to raise a farm animal for a week. They dont know if they have hens or roosters . So can I have 9 on 17 acres. Or can my one friend keep her 2 in a coop in her neighborhood. She lives off Torrington road in Louisville Kentucky.

If you are unsure of any regulations, it is always best contact your city hall. They should have all the answers on how many hens or roosters you can keep on your property.

You can always check in this section of our forums on Local Laws and How To Change Them if you need to get anything changed...https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/37/local-chicken-laws-ordinances-and-how-to-change-them

In the mean time, if you have any questions definitely stop by our learning center or ask around our forums. Lots of helpful members here to help you.

Welcome to our flock!

I would think on 17 acres, you could have all farm animals but, that my thinking. Better to check with those in power, so you have no rude awakenings. Good luck to you.
