Hey there. I'm from bc Canada. Not new to chicken farming but I use this site for good info now and then. I am in town. We are not allowed chickens but I have a large piece of property so it works out. I currently have 17 hens. Leaves enough eggs for us and a doz a day to sell. We have many predators. The 3 worst are cougar(mountain lion or puma for you southies)black bear/grizz and coons.

so glad you have decided to join us.

We have raccoon and numerous other predators , but nothing as fearsome as you deal with.

Good luck with your flock. Enjoy the forums.

Yes, we have mountain lions down here too. Very scary to see them waltzing through the yard. LOL . Bears and Coyotes along with all the standard skunks and coons. I have never had a break in, but see prints in the dirt occasionally or bear prints on the grain hut!

Stay safe up there and enjoy your hens and eggs!!

Welcome to our flock!

I have had 3 major catastrophes in 8 years. One time a bear ripped the back off the coop (3/4 plywood and 2x6) another when I had someone house sitting. They let the chickens free range then went out and a cougar left us one. Third was a fire in the chick house. But I have learned from them all and have not had any deaths or break ins in 3 years. A local farmer is going though court right now because a bear was in his coop eating his livelihood and he shot the bear. Sad for both sides. Do you guys have any stories to tell?
