Hello, my name is Sara and I live in Ohio.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am very new to chickens. We just moved to the country and had a barn mostly ready for chickens. I hatched my first chicks on May 21st.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I had 4 of 8 hatch. 7 more possible in a few weeks!

(3) What breeds do you have?
My amazing friend Alicia got me started with Icelandic chickens.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I did a ton of research on BYC before deciding to incubate.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I teach 2nd grade (10years) I also coach softball and love to read or be outdoors.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a daughter, Marik who is 7, a son, Kai, who is 3, I've been with my husband for 14 years, married 9. My husbands 2 animals in the house rule was out the window when the chicks hatched and our momma kitty had 4 babies. She kept taking off at our house so she is now inside, bringing our inside animal count to 11! I have a Malamute/ husky mix and my 16 pound tiger cat as well! The chicks and kittens will make it outside in a few weeks. I should be adding to my flock in a few weeks too!!

Congrats on the hatch! Ooh...I have heard Icelandic chickens are gorgeous! Do you have any pics of them? I saw a Icelandic Rooster once and nearly fell in love! Ha!

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask around the forums.

Welcome to our flock!

Hi Sara, nice to meet you. I think you would really enjoy the "Icelandics" thread on BYC. The people there are very, very nice and helpful. One member on there also has Icelandic sheepdogs - he even showed his female to her championship.
