I am Kori Williams from Honesdale PA, i am currently a proud mama of 5 chickens (ameraucanas) and just recently 10 Cornish Hens.
I really need some help though with my brooder. She hatched an egg mid day yesterday. Last night around 10, the chick was still wet, laying in front of her. Check this morning and the chick is still laying in front of her, with on its head dry. It is peeping, but not walking or opening its eyes. It is also still attached to the egg. HELP.

Is the mother taking care of the chick? You can put it back under the mother if your afraid it will be chilled. It's possible the chick was born with something wrong with it. You may also want to search for the broody hen thread.

Alright

How is the chick doing now ?

Is the mother trying to take care of the chick some how ?

If you have a heat lamp you could put the chick in a box and warm the chick with a lamp even a light bulb would work ..

Thank you everyone, just found your replies. It's been a bad hatching season for me. My brooder only successfully hatched 1 chick, lost 3 due to hatching too early. I have moved her eggs to an incubator, 2 hatched yesterday, 1 is happy and healthy and I moved out to my brooder to raise. Unfortunately I have 1 that is deformed I fear. She cannot walk, he legs go out in from of her, she doesn't hold herself up. Just flares herself around the box...

I have tried to adjust her legs to put them in the correct position with no luck. I am wondering if this will go away or if she is suffering...

I have tried to work with chicks with this problem but never had one recover ....

New chicks should never be put on news paper other then to take a photo , sand , wood chips or wire seem to work ...

It sounds like your incubator is a degree or two off during incubation .....

I found out it is better to use some good temp and humidity monitors to cut down on a lot of birth defects and better hatching results ....
