I am new I raised chickens years ago but I have forgotten a few things.
At what age do you go from mash to crumbles? When should I put down crushed shells

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Layer feed comes in either mash, crumbles, or pellets, and should not be fed to your hens until they are 18 weeks old or until they lay their first egg. Crushed oyster shells should be given at the same age, but in a separate dish, not mixed in with the layer feed so that the hens can eat it only if they need the extra calcium. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/11/feeding-chickens-at-different-ages.html on feeding chickens at different ages. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC!

What kind of chickens do you have? Michael O'Shay has given you a good link and information.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask.

Nice to have you join us!

To brush up on other areas of raising and managing your chickens, you should explore the learning center. There are so many helpful articles available.

Good luck with your new flock.

Hi everyone sorry I have been off line for awhile my disability is harder on me in the winter. But spring has sprung and I have my heart set on some bantoms again this year, right now I have Araucana mixes medium size, but I really love the smaller bantoms if anyone has any Araucana bantoms I would be seriously interested. My chickens are free range and I converted 2 horse stalls into coops for the winter that are well insulated and heated,
Just like you my chickens are more pets then anything else. You can reach me at [email protected] thanks everyone
