so I noticed a few days ago my gosling seemed to be breathing heavier than normal. It was a very small difference and she seemed otherwise fine so I didn’t worry about it. However yesterday it was heavier and she was also panting. I have been putting her in the brooder box still at night because it’s still been pretty chilly at night but she’s outside usually most of the day. Yesterday was one of the warmer days we’ve had and she was sitting on top of the heat unit/pad so I thought the panting was because she was hot (why she would stay on it I don’t know the box is 8’x4’ so she had plenty of non-hot places to go) so I took her for a swim. That stopped the panting and she perked up a lot. But I noticed she was still breathing heavy, and if I put my ear to her chest I can hear some wheezing and she isn’t as full of energy. This girl has always been kind of “slow” and laid back. She always takes her time to do things and really enjoys cuddling (hence we named her cuddles). But when she knew you were going to take her out of the pool or put her to bed she would always swim away or run away. But yesterday she put up no fight to take her out of the pool and only ran a little for me to put her to bed. So she’s even lazier than normal. I’ve separated her from the others and we started treatment with vetrx last night. She is eating and drinking. I just want to reach out for thoughts on what may be wrong, if there is anything more or different I should be doing? This is my first time raising a goose from a gosling. So everything makes me worried. She’s my baby .

I've had panting goslings in the past and there was never anything wrong with them. It's only a problem if you notice that your gosling is losing weight fast. So just keep an eye out :)

Reasons why they might pant: They're too hot inside or outside, some breeds pant as goslings, not enough water, dirty sleeping place that has a heating lamp.

My buff african goslings pant randomly while my brown africans don't. Embden goslings do it too.

Vetrx is like vapor rub. Dont think this is the appropriate application. Think sav-a-chick electrolytes might help pep her up! Its super cheap!

However I have chickens and Ducks I don't have Gosling(yet) so maybe someone should confirm that it's safe for geese as well

They don’t usually pant but I’m pretty sure the panting was from being to hot. Since I’ve had her separate and without a heat source she hasn’t panted again. She is still breathing heavy and still some wheezing. It sounds like a respiratory infection? I don’t think she’s lost weight. She’s always been on the smaller side. And she is eating, drinking and pooping.

Sorry i don't know why i said panting haha i meant heavy breathing!
Breathing heavily isn't a huge problem. The wheezing usually comes with the heavy breathing. If you notice weight loss than it's a huge problem.
There is a catch to it but i never got to it but all my heavy breathing goslings all grew up strong and healthy like the other ones. Some still have it 3 years later. Might've been caused as it was developing in the egg. It most likely is a respiratory problem.

I’ve actually been giving her both. My main concern is her apparent lack of energy. She doesn’t run around at all just walks slowly

Thank you.
