Can anybody help? I have 1 duck hatched out so far but it seems to be struggling to get its back end out of the egg. It has been wriggling around for a while trying to get free. It seems to be getting quite tired now.

Welcome!

As you have already received links to some great starting points, I will just wish you and your little one all the best; hopefully (s)he is just resting.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

If the chick's head is out, it is getting oxygen. Hatching is hard work, and chicks rest often. He also may be absorbing the last of the egg sac (which feeds them).

Thanks for the help, it did eventually get out but now it seems to still be attached to the egg with a tiny thin part of what looks like umbilical cord, i have left it since last night. It is quite alert and chirping just dragging the poor egg around behind it. Do i just leave it to drop off on its own or intervene? Thanks.

You could try asking over on the forums redsoxs gave you links to...that would probably be the quickest/best way of getting the answer you need.

Best of luck to you & the little guy!
