They may all look similar but can easily be told apart. Baby rats are tiny maybe only an inch to two inches long. Baby possums are born very very small and live in their mother's pouch. It would be very rare to find baby possums unless the mother was killed. Baby squirrels are larger starting out around three inches or so and up to about five or so inches before growing hair. Also they are more of a grayish color(skin). Though I really don't see what the difference is if they are possums or squirrels or even rats. IMO they are babies and need help.
They were getting really cold...no heat on em at all. I brought them back in. I'm not seein any critters walkin around anyore.
hides from lori
Back inside with lamp and a squirt from the bottle and I did see they had made a doo doo when I was holding them and getting them warmed back up....back to wiggling.
We raised a few squirrels from this age. One thing to remember is us a warm wet rag to rub their bellies after eating. This is like mom licking them, to stimulate them to pee & poop. At this age they need to get that in order to learn control oner the muscles down there. Good luck!
I have raised lots of squirrels. Kitten replacer will work in a jam but PUPPY MILK replacer is what you use for squirrels.... They are very easy to raise
I have tree squirrels and flying squirrels that we have hand raised.
Please use puppy formula instead of kitten it is much better for their stomachs. I raise them all the time and I have been advised by the vet to use puppy formula. Also the heat lamp is too much. They will need to be in a nest so you can use old rags at first if you want or even paper towels. I used wool mittens they like those. Once they are touched or moved the mother will not accept them again so they are now yours or they are dead.
