This little chick started hobbling this afternoon, and will now not even stand, and rolls to one side to avoid touching or putting any pressure on its left leg. As you can see in the photo the whole length of the leg has turned red as well as the middle toe. That toe looks like it might be bent to the left when looking from above. There is no sign of the skin being cut or any bleeding. Though if you look closely there is a white round spot on the side of the ankle. I wonder if this is a sign of a break? (Just to the left of the back toe in the photo.) I don't know what happened, though this chick is the smallest of the bunch and was getting laid on, so possibly someone else may have harmed it then. I have it propped on a warm rice sock, but it is having a hard time eating and seems to be in a lot of pain.

So I am wondering how I figure out what is really the problem with the foot, how do I diagnose the injury?

Is there anything I can give to reduce the pain?

I was looking at making a chicken sling chair, but would also like to make sure that if the foot needs treating that I do that as well.

Thanks for any advice!

i think that would mean that something is broken. :(
you could make a sling chair but it wont ever heal properly.
its sad but i think You should consider possibly putting it out of its misery with all honesty.

The poor little guy passed this morning. .. He probably was just in too much pain to hang on. Such a sweet little thing though! He will be missed, but I am glad he isn't in pain any more.
