Help! 2 soft eggs in one evening!

We got some yogurt and I added some calcium citrate to it. She ate it up. So hopefully tomorrow we will have a normal egg. It's also much cooler here today.

Unfortunately just a little bit after that, she laid another soft shell. I'm confused how she can be producing more than one egg a day???

There are several laying disorders, but I am really just learning about these things. The closest thing to that seems like impacted oviduct. The oviduct can become stretched or damaged, and eggs can back up. If you continue the calcium and vitamin D, it may clear up. Some people get hormone injections or implants to get their hens to stop laying for a few months to rest the oviduct. That can be too expensive for most of us.

Thanks. I wonder how many eggs can be in there, ha ha. I feel so bad for her. She laid normal for a couple of weeks then this happened. We're giving her yogurt with calcium pill in it....hope we figure something soon...

Phosphorous is the third part of healthy egg production along with calcium and vitamin D3. It is found in dairy foods, perhaps yogurt, ground meats, fish, nuts, and whole grains, so it is easily supplemented. Her layer feed should have plenty of all those, but good to add just a bit to her diet while she is having this problem. Good luck.
