:(Hi~ I noticed my silky chick was chirping in a needy way last evening and it's crop wasn't full. This morning dead.

Now I notice a Japanese bantam chick's crop is also not full, and looks weak... any ideas? I don't see any signs of blood in stools... I do have some 'corid' I think it's called, from when an older group had a case of coccidiosis a while back. Should I try that?

You might just have a sick batch

Try and hand-feed him, and if worse comes to worse... give him water with an eyedropper. Good Luck!!!

-Why did that chicken cross the road???

When they chirp loud and needily, it's often a sign of too-cold brooder temps. What's the temperature in your brooder so we can check? (afterthought: if they're cold, they won't eat - thus an empty crop)

What are you feeding them? Are you certain that they're all eating? some breeds are more delicate than others and might eat some but get bullied away from eating enough. I found that particularly with silkies, my jap bantams, OEGB's, etc.

Also make sure they're drinking.

If you can describe in detail how your'e caring for them, it'll help us see if it's something simple to fix. I hope we can help you!
