In the Brooder
The first chicken to show symptoms was my 6 month old game hen, and she was closing her eyes and lethargic on Sunday (5 days ago). Monday my 5 month old BCM hen had a swollen face/below her eye on one side and nasal discharge. Later that day I observed my 6 month old game rooster and my 4 month old Lavender Orpington had gurgled breeding and watery eyes. The roosters poop leaves a greenish stain on the pine shaving bedding. All four live in the same coop and were quarantined immediately. The only symptoms that are still showing are gurgled breathing and greenish poop - the swelling, lethargy, nasal discharge and watery eyes are gone as of today.
I have two other flocks separate from them. Yesterday I noticed one of my 7 week old Ayam Cemani chicks from a different flock was wobbly and could not keep her balance. I could not feel any issues with her legs and there was no swelling. I brought her inside for quarantine. Today I noticed she has some mucus in her nose. All the other Cemani chicks are active, seemingly happy with no symptoms.
What on earth is going on with my birds!? I have contacted a vet to come out and test them for respiratory illnesses next week, but the various symptoms are making it difficult to narrow down what it might be. Is the issue with my Cemani chick related or is it just a coincidence? I'm panicking over what will become of my breeding flocks - I'm in no position to cull all 3 flocks and start over
I have cleaned and sanitized everything, and put extra care into changing my clothes/washing my boots before visiting the healthy flocks, and after visiting the sick birds in quarantine. Any ideas of what is going on? Has anyone ever dealt with any respiratory illnesses with their chickens? How did you handle it?
Thanks
