Help. Last night temps went down to 35 degrees and I thought my chicks would be OK in the enclosed wooden coop with heat lamp as they are almost fully feathered. This morning one 6 week old chick was dead. (My single lacey wyandotte :-()The other chicks are lethargic and another chick looks close to death. The ill one has a blood stuff in its poop. I have just added the treatment for cocciatosis or whatever it's called to their drinking water but none of them are eating or drinking. All sleeping now (it is warm 60 degrees today) but not under the lamp. All huddled or sleeping along throughout the coop, some in corners. I have put in clean bedding throughout. They just seem lethargic. They have had no contact with the ground ever. I'm so worried I will lose more. Any advice?

if they are not drinking, you may have to get that medicine in to them with a dropper.
you have to be carefull where you place the dropper so you dont put it down their lungs.
also search for the right mixture for your particular med.
were you not feeding medicated chick feed?
i hope you can save them.

So my remaining chickens are all still alive this morning. They even seem to be more active and happy although I'm still concerned about a couple. I dosed their water with Corid in case they have coccidiosis- which I believe they do. I was feeding them chick starter feed but it was not medicated. I know they are 6 weeks but am trying to purchase medicated feed today- although my 2 southern states stores are out! :-( I will try Tractor Supply next.

First off, make sure that there are no drafts in the coop that blow across them. Next make sure there is plenty of ventilation near the ceiling of the coop. You don't want high humidity in there. Place the heat lamp high enough that if you put your hand under it, at chick level, that you can keep it there without being too hot. The chicks will move away from it if it way to hot and that way they will get cold. Also put the heat lamp to the side and give them more room to chose.

Bring them inside for a bit, Warm bath towels out of the dryer helps.

They need sugars. A few of mine were not eating and were like yours. I fed them honey on some white bread. After a bit they perked up. Two days later they were right as rain.

Update: I lost another chick yesterday even though I brought her inside and used a syringe to give her corid water. This morning my remaining birds seem better, most are eating again. My beautiful giant Braham chicken with feathered legs looked very bad (but not quite as bad as the one yesterday) so she is inside and I have been feeding her some mashed egg yolk mixed with the corid dose in water. She is sleeping mostly but sometimes chirps and is alert when I feed her. She is swallowing. Not sure how much to feed. I think the rest of my chicks will be OK. I will continue treatment.
