When I went to check on my birds one of them had her neck bent almost 80 degrees to the right. There is no visible signs of external injuries and it’s not likely a predator attack. The only way I can imagine she hurt herself is if she fell off the top of the henhouse (about 5’ tall), or if one of the other chickens attacked her .

She is also very lethargic and seems like she’s having a hard time balancing one standing up . She doesn’t want to eat or drink anything either .

Other nine chickens in the coop are perfectly fine . So I am completely clueless.

Any help would be appreciated, please feel free to email me if you know of anything that can help . [email protected]

Thank you!

It's possible she's having an issue with Wry Neck ... You can search the forums for information on t but this is what I have in my notes but I'm no expert with health issues. Hang in there, more experienced help will peep in.

Vitamin E 400IU & Selenium 25mcg 2 - 3x day, NutriDrench , some tuna, liver, boiled egg yolk are good "treats" to entice her to eat.

Thank you I will try that out. Is wry neck a common problem? And will she survive this?

Sorry about your chicken. She does sound like she has symptoms of wry neck, but the problems with balance and standing, could be signs of possible Mareks disease. I would definitely use some vitamins such as thiamine, vitamin E, selenium, and tuna or egg has selenium. Make sure that she can reach food and water. If she should die, I would get a necropsy by your state poultry vet. Refrigerate the body. Hopefully, though, this is something treatable and she will recover.

I see you have her inside. Have you examined her from top to bottom?

Have you recently brought any new birds into your flock?

It IS possible that it’s “wry neck”,

which can be a nutritional deficiency of vitamin e and selenium but the lethargy, not eating/drinking and trouble walking are worrisome.

I’m posting a link for you below. Please read through it when you can. Only you will know if your little one matches the descriptions.

Keep her warm and under observation in a box, laundry basket or dog crate.

I would administer some nutridrench vitamins or baby vitamins (polyvisol *WITHOUT iron) tonight if you have them.
Then if her symptoms match up with the wry neck I’d try to get the supplements she needs first thing in the morning.

You can hydrate her by dropping electrolytes or water with a little sugar in it just onto her beak. It’ll sort of roll down and work its way in. She’ll probably swallow it for you.

I have an americauna this happened to she is still alive but her bone is on one side and her head on the other also her crop is on one side instead of the middle ahe has now been losing all the feathers from her crop and neck and wing but seems ok for now she's about 2 years now

How do you feed her? And do you know what brought about the condition? I’m feeling pretty horrible right now, because I don’t know what caused this.

It may be wry neck which is easily cured be vitamin e + selenium, but it may also be a sign of a deadly virus. Then of course there is the option of an injury. I have a Light Sussex hen whom must have injured herself, she has had a crooked neck for the past 6 months (and still does), but other than the crooked neck she is doing fine, even laying well just like her sisters.
