I just got done tending a huge wound and had great success. Threehorses was my mentor. Please follow these simple rules and you will be fine:
1-Clean it really really well. Use saline solution (like for contacts) If you don't have that, clean ONE TIME with hydrogen peroxide, and then flush right away with an iodine solution (or saline). Make the iodine solution look like ice tea.
2-Put neosporin or anti bacterial ointment on the wounds (pat dry after cleaning with clean paper towel)
Do not use the stuff with pain reliever, it is toxic to chickens.
3-Bring her inside for a few days until she gets her strength back. I put mine in a large box or dog crate with towels...not shavings, you don't want the shavings to get stuck in the wounds.
4-Give her some wet down chicken crumbles, yogurt, maybe some tasty fruits (grapes or watermelon...but don't go overboard) or oatmeal and applesauce, you can also try honey. (my hen was not eating for a day but loved milk soaked bread...you can put a little honey in the mix too)
5-supply fresh water, and it wouldn't hurt to do some electrolytes or gatorade.
Hope this helps! The most important thing is number one...clean it well!
