HELP... Alfalfa fines????

Someone told me I could feed my girls alfalfa fines, but not the stems! May be a really stupid question, but if I buy alfalfa how do I separate the stems from the fines?

They will do that themselves. Some just put the alfalfa hay in the run for them to work over.
