Help! An egg exploded!

I went out becuase one of my goats was loose.
smelt something bad, mama duck was off her nest, thought id take a look

ants all over the eggs.

I take it out ( she laid it in a feed bucket) and one of the eggs exploded i think

other eggs were covered in yellow gunk and everything stank. I gently washed the bad egg off of y other eggs, dried them and placed them into the bucket after cleaning all th ahy out and putting fresh hay in.
When I was transferring them, my stinky goats come over and the eggs were rocked a bit im afraid, will this upset them?

The first egg was due any day now, but i doubt that.
The last egg was laid on the 27th.

Its all i thought to do, did i do right?

My broody duck had 15 - 17 eggs, she was laying her feathers in there too.
Did i do something wrong??

I think you did OK guy. You could try candling the remaining eggs and tossing the ones that don't show anything developing... that way you won't have any more explosions (hopefully).

I took the tip of my shirt, dampened it, and gently rubbed the icky stuff off, then used the other side of my shirt to dry it.


What could I have done better?

And Im not sure about candling, mama doesnt get off the nest often since it is so close to hatching time, and i dont want to push her off.
Plus the place i usually candle ( the barn) has a 6 ft snake hiding in it somwhere so it is off limits

What does an egg look like on the inside when it is bad?
I looked up a few things but i cant get any good pictures!

bad duck eggs will usually have a blackish look to them.

All my eggs are either white ( very new ones) Or tinted with green. They dont really have a black look to them. Last time i candled them I had a few ( the older eggs) that looked black on the inside. I posted a thread about it and they said to leave them in there that a duck was developing. Im not sure what the bad one looked lie on the inside

i will< uggghh< my keys are messing up< sorry everyone> well anywho< mama has not gotten off the nest while i have been outside< im guessing she does that when im not home> but as soon as she gets her rump up< ill take a look and see if i find a surprise inside!
