Help answer this F.A.Q. How do I mix new birds with old?

This question is asked here nearly every day. I see it a lot and it needs a good answer.

I usually only integrate large amounts at a time, like adding 100 to another 200. I find it is easiest to introduce them at night when they are all asleep. This seem sot make them cooperate better. When we first started with poultry years ago, we had nothing but sexlinks. Then we were given 3 White Rocks. I tried to introduce them. The others killed them because they were so different. Now we have tons of different kinds of chickens plus ducks, guineas, geese, etc. I have found that they mix easier now. I even have silkies with all my other breeds. When there is more diversity they are not as nit picky about the way everyone looks.

If you are introducing a large number of birds, I recommend that you put them in at night, and give the birds as much room as possible so that they can get away from each other.
