sorry you loss starla, weather its a dog,cat horse
. what ever, it still hurts I too lost a favorite Roo
a few months ago to some critter. and I still feel the emptiness.

We have a huge fire ant problem. If your chickens have fire ants on them soak them in apple cider vinegar. I found this advice when searching for what to do if my small dog was attacked. You can’t spray them off. The have spikes that will dig into whatever they’re on. Also, once you’ve put the poison on the mound, cover it with a box to keep your chickens away. The mound should be dead within 24 hours. Good luck!

Wow, I’m years late on this reply, but it might help someone new that is experiencing a similar situation. This is called Anting, and many birds do this because the ants can actually heal them. The formic acid secreted by ants acts as a natural insecticide, miticide, and fungicide, helping birds rid themselves of irritating ectoparasites like mites, lice, and ticks, and even controlling fungal growth on their feathers. Please research this further before putting poison on your birds.
