Hi, I'm new here (just posted on new member thread) but would like some help. I inherited 2 chickens and LOVE them. A few weeks after I got them I noticed one wasn't laying. I'm sorry as i don't know their breed but one lays brown eggs and the other blue. I have a bay window that juts out about 24" from the house and has about a 8" clearing. I decided to check under there one day and lo and behold a DOZEN eggs she had laid.

But here we go again....the one that lays brown eggs hasn't laid in over a week. Before you ask, I check under the house multiple times a day. I have blocked off where I can't reach just to ensure no eggs are being laid where I can't see. I feel in my gut she has to be laying but for the life of me I can't find them.

They have a nice coop that I completely replace bedding in every Sunday. I scoop poop out every morning. Not even sure why she isn't laying in the coop but didn't want to totally block off under the house if that's where they are comfortable. FTR, the other that lays the blue eggs mostly lays under there too.

Any idea what is going on? Could she just not be laying? Thanks for ANY advice!

One for sure way to check to see if they are both laying is to keep them locked up for a week.
Does your coop have an attached run where they will still be locked up and not free ranging?

They have a coop but I also let them have a 15ft by 8ft run so not really free range like all over the back yard. Would you suggest leaving them locked in the coop all day/week?

Yes if the coop is large enough.
They can be laying in the yard some where and or something could be eating the eggs.

You found these hidden eggs in the run?
Or some where outside where they free range.
Sorry for my confusion.

Hmmm....the coop has like 2 little bedrooms where they sleep and a perch. From there is a ramp down to like 4ft by 2ft? Think that's enough room for them all day? I'll try anything to determine if she's laying and I'm just not finding them. I might have to post some pictures so you can see. There truly is no place for her to be laying but like I said.... I feel in my gut she is.
