Hatching
My parents have been raising chicks and they are now 4/5 weeks old.
I recently went out and discovered a chick. I noticed it was moving about rather odd, and seemed a tad slow and lethargic. I saw one of its leg seemed to be splayed out, and it was having issues walking and keeping its leg underneath it.
Upon picking it up i noticed that it has a swollen thigh/hip (i dont know enough about chicken anatomy to tell which)
I was originally thinking perhaps spradle leg, but considering that the chick is almost 5 weeks old i dont know if its possibile to happen when its this old.
I was thinking maybe a dislocated hip but the leg does not seem floppy.
I'm not sure if it is in pain, but its 100% having trouble walking. Before discussing my with my parents i was hoping someone could help me out here.
I was thinking maybe i could use the bandaid method and remove her to put her in a box with a paper towel bedding and shavings (my parents have been using news paper and a very thin layer of shavings- sad) and maybe keeping a friend in with her, or possibly creating a 'chick chair'
I dont have any pictures and i most likely wont be able to get any?
Does anyone have any idea what is happening and how i can help the chick out?
